Welcome to our music school, where the piano for 5-16 year olds is at the heart of our mission. We have developed piano training programs specially designed for children, adapted to each age group for an optimal musical education.

For 5-year-olds: Musical Discovery in a Group

Lessons in Small Groups: Our lessons for the youngest children take place in small groups of three, sharing a piano for a fun learning experience.
Focus: The emphasis is on discovering the piano and singing through activities based on nursery rhymes, aimed at developing a natural interest in music.

Between 6 and 11 years old: Towards Musical Autonomy

Individual Lessons: Each student has their own piano, facilitating personal practice.
Dynamic Group: Groups of five students encourage interaction and mutual learning, often propelling children to remarkable progress.

For Teenagers: Lessons Adapted to Everyday Life

Flexible Hours: Special 7pm sessions for teenagers, respecting their lifestyle and need for independence.
Selection of Works: Scores chosen to motivate and challenge, while respecting the musical tastes of this age group.

Group vs. Individual: Our Approach

Introduction to piano lessons

For the past 6 years, Piano Académie has been offering 2-year introductory music courses. Since January 2022, we have set up a piano initiation course for children over 4 years old. After several months of operation, we note that the course likes the children and gives very encouraging results.

We propose for this year 2022 – 2023 to open an introductory piano course for children who will be 4 years old on October 1st 2022.

The course lasts 1 hour with 30mn of musical awakening and 30mn of initiation to the piano in group.

Awakening to music classes for 3 and 4 year olds

Open since 2016, our school’s musical awakening classes introduce children to the world of classical music at an early age.

Children quickly discover musical instruments, the great classical composers and the different styles (ballet, opera, orchestral music, …).

The classes are composed of 3 and 4 year olds. We want to give them a taste for my music, to help them develop their imagination and their listening skills. All instruments are given pride of place so that later on they can choose their favorite instrument by themselves.

Registration form

Here you can register online directly. You will indicate your preferred niche and the selected course package. A quotation will then be sent to you on the basis of the information provided.

Trial courses

It is possible to do a trial lesson before committing to a school year. This trial class is charged at €30. Registration for this trial class is done directly online.

Adults, just like children, need to see immediate results. There’s no question of waiting 5 years to be able to play a waltz by Chopin!

Mi-Young LEE has thus perfected her learning method to enable anyone to play a major work from the classical repertoire very quickly.

How many times has she heard, “I’m too old to start,” “I don’t have time to spend two hours a day,” etc.?

Play your favorite tune straight away!

The first step is to choose with the student the first piece he wants to learn to play. Here, there is no pink method or other simplified pieces.

Our teaching philosophy is based on the idea that anyone can learn to play the piano.

Moderate Progression: Pupils learn progressively, making sure that each stage is mastered before moving on to the next . .
Concrete example: You could, for example, interpret a Nocturne by Chopin in less than three months, a feat made possible thanks to our structured method..

No need to practice for hours

Contrary to what you might think, you don’t need to spend several hours every day:

Regularity Before Quantity: Just 15 to 20 minutes of regular exercise a day can lead to amazing results.

Age is No Obstacle

Learning the piano as an adult has its own challenges, but also its advantages:

Adaptation to the Repertoire: The classical repertoire is vast and offers pieces adapted to all levels of speed and dexterity, allowing everyone to find works that correspond to their abilities and preferences..

Some also prefer to focus on a particular sport. Again, no problem. You are here to have fun. That is the main thing. Our job and our expertise are then to help you progress quickly.

Still not convinced? Take a class with one of our students at the Academy. Discuss, exchange ideas. Nothing can replace the experience of those who have gone before you!

Students are invited to give their first concert after one year! It is not compulsory, but it is highly recommended!

When our studios are not occupied by our teachers, we offer the possibility of renting our spaces equipped with pianos to those who wish to do so on an hourly basis. This opportunity is currently only available at our facilities located at 2bis rue Scheffer and Rue Richelieu.

Booking times: Our studios are available for booking from Monday to Friday, between 12.00 and 13.00 and 17.00 and 20.00. Please note that on Wednesdays, bookings are possible from 11.00 to 20.00.

It is important that each reservation begins on a full hour (for example, 9:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., etc.). The studio closes its doors every evening at 8:00 p.m.

Reservation Procedure: After registering, you will have access to our online reservation portal, allowing you to schedule your sessions up to two weeks in advance.

Reservation cancellations are accepted without penalty up to 4 hours before the reserved time slot. Please note that reservations are limited to one or two participants per studio.

We hope that this flexibility will encourage you to take full advantage of our facilities for your musical practice. If you have any questions or need assistance with your reservation, please do not hesitate to contact us.

International piano competitions

See Your Children Shine with PIANO ACADEMIE

At PIANO ACADEMIE, we celebrate not just learning, but excellence. Since 2018, we’ve been offering our young pianists the chance to take part in international competitions, enabling them to amplify their talents on a global stage.

This initiative is not intended to turn our students into competition machines, but rather to give them the opportunity to progress faster and work more intensively, if they are willing and able.

In 2018, we trained our first group of six children aged between 6 and 8, and their progress over a year of preparation has been astounding. While winning awards is not our primary goal, we are extremely proud of our students’ achievements.

Take Gabrielle, for example, who won first prize at the prestigious London International Competition. Or our three young prodigies who took part in the Milan International Competition.

Despite the cancellation of competitions during the Covid crisis, our students have continued to progress and excel. In 2020-2021, PIANO ACADEMIE is the only French school to feature in the list of winners of the competitions presented, attesting to the high level of competence of our students.

And 2023 is already promising: we’ve won prizes in Munich, New York and Italy, and over 40 students joined our intensive class this year.

Curriculum

The curriculum we offer is aimed at children aged 5 to 13 who are already at level 2 or “Intermediate” in our school. Our teachers, who have already taken part in international competitions, will “coach” them throughout the year.

To be in a position to present themselves honorably at these international competitions, we will ask the children who wish to enroll to make a continuous and sustained effort. This effort will take the form of their participation in :

14 Master classes (3 hours on Saturday mornings or afternoons – about twice a month). These classes will be organized right up to the competitions. Starting Saturday September 17, 2023.
At least one intensive course at the school. Participation in the 2 courses is recommended.
2 group classes per week at the school or online.

A pre-selection is organized at the school at the beginning of the school year. Registrations are made directly by clicking on the pre-registration request button.

Our courses are designed to accommodate all ages and skill levels. For the youngest (aged 3 to 5), we offer a playful musical awakening where they discover the great composers, the different musical instruments and the first notions of music theory.

Children aged 4 can be introduced to the piano thanks to a 30-minute introductory program, followed by 30 minutes of musical awakening. From the age of 5, we offer piano lessons in three formats: small group lessons for 5- and 6-year-olds, group lessons for groups of 3 to 5 students, and private lessons for those who prefer personalized learning.

For adults, we offer group lessons in groups of 3 to 10 students, as well as private lessons for those who prefer a more intimate learning environment.

Young children - course construction

Lessons starting at 5 years old

At what age can one learn to play the piano? This is a question we are often asked. Mi-Young LEE started at the age of 4 and other great pianists started later. It is important for the child to be able to concentrate enough to enjoy the class. So 5 years old seems to be the most suitable age.

We then form homogenous groups so that each child feels comfortable during the lesson.

Why would a group of 3 children

We often think that a private lesson is more effective than a group lesson, and that 20 minutes of one-to-one tuition is better than an hour with other students.

What’s true for older students doesn’t apply to children under 10. Our experience shows us that a certain emulation enables children to concentrate better, to find extra motivation to play the piano and to persevere to overcome the difficulties they will inevitably encounter throughout their learning.

Using the keyboard over its entire length

Children are usually taught to play on the central part of the keyboard.The Mi-Young LEE method invites each child to play on different parts of the keyboard.

Pieces reviewed and adapted to the age of the children

Piano Académie produces its own scores. The pieces are specifically chosen and adapted to facilitate children’s learning.

For each semester a volume is offered.

Playful, progressive exercises will enable children to quickly become independent in reading the two keys essential to learning the piano. The school has adapted the TAKADEMI method and now uses it as the basis for learning.

In addition, PIANO ACADEMIE has developed game cards that allow you to learn music theory while having fun!

Musical culture

We want that from the earliest age children learn to love not only classical music but also to be able to associate works with composers.

We therefore think it is important that children know the lives of great composers, and may want to deepen their curiosity together with their parents.

Videos are available on our website, so that children can repeat what they’ve learned with their teacher.

All they have to do is put the tablet on the piano and follow the teacher’s instructions!
