Introduction We are delighted to invite you to our Easter workshop, this year dedicated to a theme as joyful as the arrival of spring: “Grieg and the Nordic Landscapes”. Edvard Grieg, often compared to Norway’s Chopin, devoted much of his work to the piano. His music, deeply rooted in the Norwegian folk tradition, evokes the joy and beauty of his country’s landscapes.
A Workshop for All This workshop is the perfect opportunity for Piano Académie students to fine-tune their Grieg piece in preparation for the end-of-year concert, enriching their interpretation with musicality and imagination. For those unfamiliar with our academy, this is an ideal opportunity to discover the fascinating world of this exceptional composer.
Dialogue of the Arts A unique aspect of our course is the “Dialogue of the Arts”. We will establish links between Grieg’s music and the work of Edvard Munch, the renowned Norwegian painter. This joint exploration will awaken and develop the imagination of our young musicians, while integrating song and dance into our artistic journey.
Plastic Art and Norwegian Tradition In Norway, Easter is a time of festivities and traditions, particularly through plastic art. Our participants will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in these traditions by making Easter decorations and building miniature Norwegian huts, recalling the importance of decoration in the Norwegian Easter celebration.
Course programme
During this enriching course, participants will engage in 2 hours of piano practice each half-day, with particular attention paid to the needs and level of each student. We will propose a specific arrangement of a work by Grieg, carefully selected to match the student’s skill level, which will be the focus of our engagement throughout the week. In addition to this instrumental practice, one hour a day will be devoted to a variety of activities designed to enrich everyone’s musical experience.
For our young participants, aged 3 to 5, we have designed an approach specially adapted to their young age and attention span. The length of the piano lessons will be adjusted to suit their needs, with shorter sessions that are just as exciting. For children aged 3 and over, the course will serve as an introduction to the world of the piano, introducing the basics in a fun and accessible way. This tailor-made teaching method ensures that every child, whatever their age, receives training that respects and appropriately develops their musical potential.
Conclusion The Spring Workshop “Grieg and the Nordic Landscapes” promises to be an immersive and enriching experience, combining musical learning with artistic and cultural discovery. We look forward to seeing you there to share these moments of joy and creativity with you.
