Introduction
For almost a decade, Piano Académie has been shaking up the rules of piano teaching. While the traditional approach is based on private lessons, our school has chosen the path of innovative group lessons. With 9 years of experience, more than 800 students and a 90% group lesson rate, we have developed a unique method based on the teaching methods of Mi-Young LEE, which combines rigor, friendliness and measured progress.
1. An innovative teaching approach
The Mi-Young LEE method
Our method is based on a sequential and compartmentalized approach. Each piece is broken down into measures, each of which must be perfectly mastered before moving on to the next. This approach guarantees in-depth understanding and long-lasting memorization, while offering students the opportunity to correct their mistakes without compromising the whole piece.
The impact of the group
Choosing group lessons allows students to progress together, share their experiences and enrich each other. This dynamic creates a stimulating and friendly atmosphere, promoting learning and self-confidence.
2. An interactive teaching approach
At Piano Académie, the essence of our method lies in the personalized attention offered within the group. During each lesson, the teacher actively moves from one student to another, demonstrating techniques, correcting mistakes and adapting his or her advice to the specific needs of each student. This dynamic promotes rapid and targeted progress, while creating a stimulating atmosphere where students learn from each other. In addition, music theory is offered during specific group lessons, given online in dedicated slots, allowing everyone to consolidate their theoretical understanding and improve their reading of sheet music.
Criterion | Piano Academy | Other Piano Learning Methods (Traditional and Classical) |
---|---|---|
Lesson Format | Group lessons in person, fostering group dynamics and peer motivation. | One-on-one lessons, sometimes in small groups, with highly personalized follow-up. |
Teaching Approach | Sequential and structured method (measure-by-measure learning) to gradually master each section of a piece. | Overall approach to the sheet music or use of traditional technical exercises (e.g., Alfred, Bastien methods). |
Feedback and Correction | The teacher actively moves around the group, providing immediate corrections and adapting advice in real-time. | Individualized follow-up with in-depth corrections, but less group interaction. |
Motivation and Engagement | Strong group dynamics and high engagement, with a dropout rate below 5%, ensuring fast progress. | Motivation varies from student to student, and isolation may limit engagement, especially for adults. |
Pricing and Accessibility | Flexible and affordable subscription plans (as low as €6.25/hour for 5 lessons per week, around €15/hour for 2 lessons per week) across multiple Paris locations. | Traditional private lessons are often more expensive and offer less flexibility in scheduling. |
Educational Supplements | Group music theory lessons, provided online at dedicated time slots, to reinforce theoretical understanding and sheet music reading. | Music theory is usually integrated into individual lessons or small group classes without a specific distinction. |
Adaptability for Adults | Designed to meet the needs of adults (young professionals, working individuals, and seniors) with a focus on fast and measurable results. | Often centered on children or beginners, with schedules and approaches that do not always align with adult constraints. |
